Strategic Outsourcing Assessment
(SOA)
Outsourcing initiatives have evolved
from short-term tactical projects focused on cost savings
to executive-level business strategies that enable companies
to gain and sustain revenues and profits in the competitive
global marketplace. In this third newsletter of a four-part
series, ZSL, an IT outsourcing solution provider, details
the process necessary for organizations to conduct a
Strategic Outsourcing Assessment (SOA).
Mass Value computation and
indexing processes
The process maps the various applications
or processes or infrastructure components of an organization
to help the client determine how they should deal with
each of the applications in the short and long terms
- keep it inside or move it out via onshore or offshore
outsourcing.
Mass Value computing process for
each application would involve questionnaires and discussions
with application or process owners. The Mass Value will
be assigned for each application or process based on
the answers. ZSL uses standard forms to capture the
data during the interview and process it to arrive the
Mass Value. The forms would primarily cover the application’s
a) Complexity b) Criticality c) Operating Environment
and d) Nature of Support.
The process will index each application
with the suitable label (’Outsource it’,
‘Experiment it’, ‘Keep it’)
based on the Mass Value. The suitable proximity factors
such as Onsite, Offsite, near shore and Offshore also
will be applied if necessary. The Mass Value and Indexing
label would help you to interpret your level and readiness
needed to engage the IT Outsourcing Solution Provider.
Based on the above said processes
out come, ZSL would provide the qualitative observations
and recommendations that cover
- The most amenable applications for onshore/offshore
outsourcing
- The moderate amenable applications for onshore/offshore
outsourcing
- The most complex applications for onshore/offshore
outsourcing
- Suitable jump-start pilot program also will be suggested
in the recommendation for the ‘Ready to Outsource’
organization.
About SOA
ZSL offers a complementary Strategic
Outsourcing Assessment (SOA), resulting in a highly
detailed step-by-step document, or "roadmap",
which includes:
- High-level overview of core and non-core business
applications/processes
- Evaluation of outsourcing readiness
- Itemized gap analysis of systems/process infrastructure,
complete with roadmap and recommendations
- Summary of optional engagement models with projected
impact analysis
- Summary of short term and long term recommendations
- Detailed solution providers evaluation checklist
- Recommended jump-start pilot outsourcing initiative
to build buy-in and momentum.
The SOA would also help you
in
a) getting a baseline for a overall project plan,
b) providing momentum to stalled discussions/planning
of outsourcing initiatives,
c) validation for functional heads who have yet to secure
sign-off for an outsourcing initiative,
d) providing a competitive baseline by which current
preferred outsourcing vendors can be re-evaluated
